KWAZULU-NATAL: AN EXOTIC MIX

 

Also in Durban and Pietermaritzburg there are English architectonical elements, even though before 1839 the province has been colonized by Voortrekkers.

Pietermaritzburg is famous for pink buildings in Victorian style.

At the end of the XIX century economics effects of mining industry produced a building boom exemplified by the monumental structure of Durban city hall built in classical style by Philip Dudgeon. In Durban the great presence of Asian population have characterized local architecture: there are a lot of Hindu temples and the Grey Street Mosque.
